    At Downtown New West Yoga & Fitness & Meditation we believe that yoga and meditation classes should be easy to access and affordable. We offer classes for people of all ages and abilities; whether you are new to the practice or an experienced yogi, our studio and instructors will welcome you and make you feel relaxed and comfortable.

    Because we know that each individual is seeking something different, we offer a variety of styles of yoga in addition to meditation and fitness classes. And if you need more structured and personalized guidance, you can always book one of our personal trainers. Our classes are designed to purify and relax your body, and your experience with us should put you at ease as soon as you enter our facility.     At Downtown New West Yoga & Fitness & Meditation we really do want to be accessible to all. We know that people like to mix it up a bit, so we also offer invigorating and empowering fitness classes.

    The type of meditation that we teach at Downtown New West Yoga & FItness & Meditation is called Vipassana meditation. Everyone is welcome to attend our meditation classes. Techniques are taught step by step, allowing you to acquire the skills you need to develop your own lifelong practice.

  • Yoga

    Flow Vinyasa
    Vinyasa means union between breath and movement. Every movement is lead by an inhalation or exhalation. The time you move, is the time you breathe. Your body follows this natural rhythm of breath that soothes your nervous system.

    Hatha
    Steady postures and deep breath-work emphasize balance of body, mind and spirit while enhancing flexibility, stamina, and muscular endurance. Modifications are offered for all postures. A guided relaxation closes the session, leaving you feeling stretched, relaxed, and centred. Seniors are welcome.

    Yin
    Meditative and restorative classes are equally appropriate for beginners and experienced yogis. Athletes, runners, dancers, people who like to exercise at the gym will be benefited as well; this practice helps to release soreness in muscles and protects from future injuries.

    Hatha for Alignment
    Good therapy is developed over time and is usually very personal. Therapy can be mending the body, mind or soul. All levels are invited to experience the sequence of slowing down, alignment and relaxation, of each pose (asana). The class is encouraged to use breath in stretches and movement in order to fully remove imbalances and bring the body back to healing and wellness.

    Gentle Yoga
    Class is appropriate for those who want a softer, nurturing, slow-paced, well-supported and relaxing practice. Classes are accessible for all ages and fitness levels and meet students "where they are." Class is designed for people with movement limitations, or profound stiffness due to lack of activity; relief from disabilities and chronic conditions e.g., arthritis, back pain and other musculo-skeletal issues; recovery from surgery, illness or injury; for seniors, new practitioners, and those seeking stress-reduction or weight management. Blocks, bolsters, straps, and chairs (if needed) are used for this class.

  • Specialty Yoga

    Yoga Nidra
    Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep), also known as yogic sleep or sleep with awareness, is an ancient practice that is rapidly gaining popularity in the West. It is intended to induce full-body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness. We live in a chronically exhausted, over stimulated world, Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of complete relaxation, holistically addressing our physiological, neurological, and subconscious needs.

    During a typical class, teachers use a variety of techniques-including guided imagery and body scanning-to aid relaxation. And unlike a quick Savasana at the end of asana practice, Yoga Nidra allows enough time for practitioners to physiologically and psychologically sink into it-at least 20 to 30 minutes. We practice Yoga Nidra in order to:
    - induce deep relaxation from day-to-day stress
    - improve sleep
    - to find deeper healing connection to our body

    Prenatal Yoga
    Yoga for expecting Moms improves circulation, aids in digestion, and can also alleviate many of the discomforts of pregnancy such as nausea, constipation, varicose veins, swelling, back pain and sciatica. Gentle and safe practice is designed to strengthen back and abdomen muscles and open pelvic area for an easy birth. Breath work and relaxation techniques promote well-being of a pregnant woman and her baby allowing her to meet the challenges and transformation of pregnancy with confidence and joy.

  • Kids Birthday Parties

    Yoga Kids Birthday Parties are fun, vibrant and fast-paced. Learn to stretch like a dog, balance like a flamingo, and be a lazy lion. An hour of creative movement that kids of all ages love to take part in. At the end of the yoga session, kids will relax with simple stories and visualizations. When it's time for cake the kids are calm and relaxed. Ages 3+

    Zumba Kids Birthday Parties are a unique and exciting way to celebrate. Kids will enjoy rocking high energy, packed with specially choreographed, kid friendly routines. They will be encouraged to express themselves through movement and play while effectively improving their overall health and well-being. Ages 1+

    Requirements: Maximum 15 kids per party. Party must be booked at least 2 weeks prior to party date. A deposit of $60.00 required. Each birthday party is supervised with 1-2 instructors. Parents can choose to be present or not. The birthday child and all their friends will be sure to have a yoga or zumba experience to remember!

    Price for Yoga or Zumba Birthday Parties: $120 + gst for 10 kids; $10 per additional child for maximum 15 kids. Price includes:
    1 hour kid friendly yoga or zumba class (talk to us if you want both classes to be provided) with one of our certified kids yoga or zumba teacher;
    1 hour rent of our facility for a birthday child to enjoy a healthy lunch, to play, to share a cake with friends and open presents.
    Plates, cups, utensils.
    Free one month pass for a birthday child to attend yoga or zumba classes.

    Note: Parents need to bring their own food, a cake, and goody bags for kids.
  • Kids Yoga. ~Deep breath, peaceful minds, healthy bodies, happy children~

    Yoga is a unique and natural way for children to gain awareness of themselves, others around them and the world! Through yoga practice it engages a child's natural, boundless energy, and conveys valuable lessons in positive thinking, body and mind awareness. Children will learn yoga poses as well as enjoy some relaxation time through music, games, stories, dance and self-expression in a welcoming, non-competitive environment. Parents or caregivers attendance is optional.

    Yoga for 3-5 yrs
    Dates: Wed: Sep 10th, Sep 17th, Sep 24th, Oct 1st, Oct 8th. Time: 10:30 - 11:15am

    Yoga Therapy for Children with Autism and Special Needs, 5-12 yrs
    Our yoga classes meet kids with Autism and Special Needs where they are. Our teachers use songs and games specifically designed for children with attention and sensory challenges. An integrated series of balanced Yoga poses are used to increase body awareness, strength, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to develop overall calmness and concentration.

    Yoga allows kids to use the body in different ways and across all planes of movement, thus, improving kids' motor skills. Repetition, an important key in building new motor skills, is incorporated to help children master new movements.

    All classes are about incorporating a variety of fun tools to entice a child to be an active participant and communicate with other kids in class, thus improving kids' social skills and behavior. Unlike many physical activities, there is no winning or losing when practicing yoga. It is fun and playful!

  • Zumba for Kids

    Wee Dance Crystal Stapleton is an experienced Dance Teacher and Early Childhood Educator. Crystal Facilitates a 45 minuet Music and Movement class for care giver and child (ages 0-4). That enhances BONDING, COMMUNITY, major booster for HEALTH & WELLNESS (for caregiver and child) and it's taught to educational age developmentally appropriate music. Wee dance will spark a child's inner passion for Dance and Music while caregivers learns new and exciting ways to aid their children's artistic nature.

    Teacher's Bio: Crystal Stapleton was trained in Toronto and turned pro from an early age. In fact, Stapleton is one of the original Toronto Raptors junior cheerleaders and debuted at the NBA's team inaugural game in 1995. Dancing for over 25 years, and teaching for 15 years, Stapleton also has a degree in Early Childhood Education. The combination of her professional experience and early childhood education background only elevate her already inspriging Wee dance and Zumba Kids/Jr classes.

    Notes: 1. Extra space is available as a waiting/playroom area. Our main entrance is from Columbia St, but we keep the back ground level door from Clarkson St open for Moms that come with strollers 15-20 minutes before the class. 2. If a parent is an active member at our studio a child and the parent have 15% off to all our services.

  • Meditation

    Meditation relieves stress, increases mental clarity and wellbeing. Clinical studies have shown that meditation stimulates the parts of the brain that is associated with lowered stress response and decrease in anxiety. When practiced regularly meditation helps us to maintain our psychological and physical balance, and reduces the risk of many stress related illnesses such as heart disease, Alzheimer's, IBS, fibromyalgia, immune deregulation syndromes and cancer.

    The type of meditation that we teach at Downtown New West Yoga & FItness & Meditation is called Vipassana meditation. Vipassana is the oldest of Buddhist meditation practices. The method comes directly from the Satipatthana Sutta, a discourse attributed to the Buddha himself. Vipassana is a direct and gradual cultivation of mindfulness or awareness. Vipassana is a gentle and simple technique that doesn't involve any special rituals or arrangements. Only determination and discipline are needed.

    Everyone is welcome to attend our meditation classes. Techniques are taught step by step, allowing you to acquire the skills you need to develop your own lifelong practice.

    Ruses and Regulations

    Core Strengthening

  • What Yoga classes are beginners friendly?

    Gentle Yoga, Hatha for Alignment, Hatha, Yin, Flow Foundation Yoga classes are good classes to start your practice. Classes are geared toward people who never practiced before or need some gentle practice. Our fitness Core, Pilates, Zumba classes are well paced with different modifications to adopt all levels of fitness as well.

    Iterested in Flow style?

    Please, drop in to our Flow Foundation classes every first Thursday of the month a6 6:30pm.

    How many classes per week are recommended to attend?

    Depends on your schedule, but our recemmendation is at least 2 classes per week.

    Is previous experience requred to attend Meditation classes?

    Meditaion classes are designed for people who have never practiced meditation before.
